Ford Power Stroke Diesel Chips
The Ford Power Stroke diesel line of motors (7.3L, 6.0L & 6.4L) is made by Navistar International for Ford Motors. These engines are built in the United States and Brazil. In 2011 Ford introduced the 6.7L Power Stroke uses Ford software and the motor was designed and built in house.
7.3L Ford Power Stroke
In 1994 the 7.3L Diesel Power Stroke was unveiled. The Power Stroke is direct injected with electronic control. It has a turbocharger and from 1999 on an intercooler was added. The 7.3L Ford Power Stroke was rated at 250HP and 525 ft lbs. of torque. The 1994.5 to 1997 7.3L used a cam driven fuel pump and the 1999-2003 used a frame rail mounted electric fuel pump. The performance manufacturer www.dieseltunesperformancechips.com has been producing diesel performance chips for both the earlier 7.3 and the later models from 1999-2003. Each design is different in order to accommodate the variances in each design. The Diesel Tunes performance modules add fuel economy, torque and horsepower depending upon the application.
6.0L Ford Power Stroke
In 2003 the 7.3L Power Stroke was replaced by the 6.0L diesel motor. Initial problems with the 6.0L Power Stroke engine included the variable vane turbo, EGR carbon deposits, Exhaust Back Pressure (EBP) sensors, Powertrain Control Module (PCM) calibrations and fuel injector harness issues. In 2006, after many changes to the 6.0L Power Stroke, the 6.0L diesel motor had the lowest rate of warranty issues of any of Ford’s gas and diesel engines. Diesel Tunes Performance Chips has been manufacturing power modules for the 6.0L motor since 2003 and provided valuable feedback to Ford focused on issues of the EGR carbon deposits. It was determined that long idle times are the cause of the carbon deposits as diesel engines are not efficient at idle. The Diesel Tunes Performance Chip addresses this issue by “atomizing” the fuel at lower RPM’s which results in a much finer fuel plume that is more easily ignited and burns more thoroughly than stock which promotes greatly enhanced combustion even at idle. The byproduct of this improved combustion efficiency was a marked decrease in carbon deposits in the EGR valve. Another key advantage of the Diesel Tunes module was the lack of “fingerprint” on the vehicle PCM which allowed warranty on the vehicle to remain in force.
6.4L Ford Power Stroke
In 2007 Ford introduced the new Super Duty with the 6.4L Power Stroke motor. This powerhouse offers 350HP and a whopping 650 ft. lbs. of torque. Key components include sequential turbo, smaller non waste-gated turbo and increased throttle response. The 6.4L diesel also has a Diesel Particulate Filter which traps soot and particulates. A common complaint with the 6.4L Power Stroke was fuel economy. Again, the Diesel Tunes Performance Team stepped up to the plate and developed a performance module that increased the fuel efficiency of the 6.4L motor by up to 18% through its patented combustion efficiency programming. This was accomplished without the need for engine cooling apparatus such as bigger intakes and exhausts although the Diesel Tunes Performance Chip works fine with the extra air flow. Another key feature of the Diesel Tunes Performance module is that it won’t leave a “fingerprint” on the vehicle Power Train Control Module so vehicle warranty remains intact.
6.7L Power Stroke
The 2011 “Scorpion” is so named because of the turbo being mounted on top of the engine block. It is the first in the Power Stroke line to be designed and produced solely by Ford. It features a compacted graphite iron block, aluminum cylinder heads with reverse flow, six bolts per cylinder and high pressure common rail Bosch Fuel System. This new monster motor sports 400HP and an unheard of 800 ft. lbs. of torque. The design team at Diesel Tunes Performance Chips is working hard to produce a performance enhancing module for this new 6.7L Ford Diesel just as they have done since the 7.3L Diesel rolled out in 1994.
Diesel Tunes Performance Chips is proud of a sixteen year tradition of providing performance enhancing products for the entire Ford Power Stroke line including the 7.3L, 6.0L, 6.4L and, very soon, the new Ford 6.7L.
